For the past couple of weeks I have been working on expanding my abilities with colored pencil. Because of this i have been working on shading with them because that is all still new to me. The following pictures are pieces i have been working on. (WIP) (final) I'm trying to work more with highlights especially in the hair, however i am very happy with the color variation in the hair. Colored pencil was a bit of a risk for me considering i haven't done much with it and mainly work in graphite, however i think it went well considering this is the first portrait i have done in this medium. (WIP) this piece is one i am still working on. I'm planning on adding more color to the skin because it is still looking too light. I also plan on adding more to the lips as they still look very flat. The hair i think will be easier in this portrait because i don't have to worry abut the shape of it as much as i did in the last one. (final)
For this piece I created a portrait of my friend Julia. I decided to chose this photo because of her facial expression. I thought that by choosing a face that wasn't it would add a bit of personality to it. This relates to taking risks. I wasn't completely sure if I'd be able to make it look like Julia, but i think that it does. This piece also relates to making original art because every aspect of it was from my own ideas.
For this project we watched a video on the Guerilla Girls who were a group of artists who shared their complaints through their artwork. We took inspiration from their artwork and made our own complaint piece. My complaint was the fact that all of our time has to be put into schoolwork and that as high-schoolers we don't have enough time for our hobbies such as sports and art. In my piece you see a scale in front of a clock that is measuring the time spent on each of the activities being weighed and you can see that the books are portrayed as heavier than the other activities. For this piece i used watercolor because i thought that it would be great for showing value and i ran into trouble when it came to the clock color but by adding more water i was able to fix it a little bit. The artistic behaviors that i used during this project were creating original art, communicating, developing skill(in watercolor), and solving problems.
Never Seen, Never Will For this piece we had to create artwork of something that we have never seen and will never seen. For mine I painted the bottom of the ocean. And while there are quite a few people who have seen it I know that I never will. At least not with this many animals around me. It was really fun to do because I don't paint very often because I'm not good at it but I got to take risks and try it out. On our first day of class we had something called a task party where we each chose a task and had to perform it; whether it was art or something simple like asking someone a question. It made people go out of their comfort zones and really have fun in a new and unique way. We then critiqued each others "tasks" and it offered insight on how other viewed our pieces. The next day we got to critique the AP art students work! Each AP student put out heir summer work and we all went around with sticky notes with both complements and criticisms and got to anonymously tell each student how we felt about their work. We then got to collaborate with the class through a mural! We each received a part of a work of art from Picasso and resized it and each of the final squares became a part of our mural!
